Volkswagen CC VR6 4Motion Function

The 2009 Volkswagen CC features a well-laid-out, uncluttered control design. Climate controls are easy to figure out, with a single button or knob controlling a single function. Our fully loaded CC VR6 test car came with the Technology package, which adds a navigation system, digital music storage and a back-up camera. Both the nav and audio systems are controlled by VW's new touchscreen interface, which is easy enough to figure out thanks to logical menus and helpful physical buttons that run alongside the screen. Particularly welcome are the four banks of preset buttons (24 in total) that you can mix and match among AM, FM and satellite radio stations.

Jaguar XF Supercharge: Performance

Aside from its bloated dubs, the XF offers a decadently comfortable cabin. The front seats strike a Jag-appropriate balance among distance-friendly firmness, luxury-minded cushiness and sport-friendly support. Standard heating and cooling for those seats is a particularly welcome touch, but the optional heated steering wheel didn't work as advertised. (We thought it was a problem with our test car, but then another XF we drove responded the same.)

There's not much that's practical about the 2008 Lotus Elise SC. It's nearly impossible to get in and out of gracefully, the interior lacks many of the bells and whistles we've come to expect of modern road cars, and its diminutive proportions prevent it from carrying much more than a purse and a bottle of water. But here's the thing: with the right mindset, it doesn't really matter.

For a softly suspended SUV, the RX 400h handles itself well on a twisty road. Though you can feel the body roll when you push it harder in the corners, it never feels nervous and there is plenty of grip to be had. Furthermore, the stability control system will step in to keep things in check if need be. The well-weighted steering is precise, if devoid of road feel.
